Volume Loss

Volume loss is a sign of aging, with collagen and hyaluronic acid constantly depleting, tear troughs, nasolabial folds, marionette lines increasing, apple cheeks disappearing, and sunken temples

What is volume loss?

Volume loss refers to the loss of collagen of certain parts of the face, such as tear troughs, sunken eyes, sunken temples, sunken cheeks, and forehead depressions, which are obvious and result in a change in facial contour. Volume loss, skin sagging, and wrinkles are collectively known as the three signs of aging.

Common Indications

Sunken eyes: Generally, it is manifested as upper and lower eyelid indentations, which are caused by insufficient soft tissue between the upper and lower eyelids and the orbital margin, resulting in different degrees of indentation of the eye sockets.

Sunken temples: Thin people have less subcutaneous fat, which makes the entire face lack streamlined feel. The subcutaneous tissue of the temples begins to shrink, causing sunken temples.

Sunken cheeks: The depression of the apple muscles is more likely to cause visual errors of high cheekbones, making the face look fierce. This is a state of insufficient soft tissue and atrophy.

Common Causes

Collagen and elastin: These help maintain the tightness and hydration of the skin. If there is a lack of these, it can lead to dryness and sagging of the skin.

Subcutaneous fat: The muscles and bones in the face are filled with a large amount of fat. As people age, the fat gradually shrinks, causing the face to lose its plump appearance.

Bone resorption and loss of bone mass: This can cause soft tissues such as muscles and fat to lose strong support.
